Visiting the Harris Meseum and Art Gallary
The Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston
The Harris Museum is temporary closed for extensive refurbishment. The project "Harris Your Place"
is a £16 million initiative to restore and rebuild the Harris as a cultural learning place for 21st-century audiences. The goal of this project is to preserve the structure and architecture for future generations, while also improving accessibility and presenting The Harris as a community hub for Preston and Lancashire.
The capital project is about more than just preserving this beloved structure; Harris wants to ensure that it remains a dynamic hub of the community. A desirable location for people to spend their time.

When is the Harris Museum expected to reopen?
"We will re-open our magnificent Grade I Listed building in 2025 and are
already working with Community Partners to deliver a programme of events
and activities throughout closure and from day one of re-opening."
What changes will we expect to See?
A Museum, Art Gallery, and Library in One:
More prosperous: Attracting more tourists (an additional 100,000, we anticipate) with improved café, store, and event areas. These increased visitors will also imply greater business for Preston's other stores and services, contributing to the city's economic growth.
More inclusive: With new places for creation, play, learning, socialising, and volunteering, as well as new, specialised areas for youth. We'll also collaborate with local communities to ensure that the Harris communicates the story of Preston's rich history and culture, and that the Harris is a location where locals can see themselves and have their voices heard.
